This morning I took the baby out to get groceries while my wife had a lay-in as she isnt too well. Im in the habit of wearing my old uniform jacket and so far I either get people asking me about it, or no-hoper teenagers shouting abuse at me, and the occasional stare.

Walking up one of the main shopping streets today and a small middle-aged lady steps in front of me 'Excuse me, were you in the military?' 'Used to be' I replied 'I thought so.Are you going back to it?' She asks, I point to the baby and explain that I have family responsibilities now 'You should be proud of it, I have seen you about wearing the uniformand first thought you were a bit..' she starts making circling motions at her head with her finger 'but its something to be proud of. Without people like you to get us through the wars where would we be? Theres people want to blow us up and people like you stop them. Thank you. You should be proud' she says taking my hand and shaking it.

I have to say, this conversation with the lady lasted about 2 minutes, and undid the negativity caused my ages of abuse shouted by the no-hopers. When I got home I felt as if id have to walk through the door sideways as I thought my head and chest were about ten feet wide

Its nice to be appreciated for once Very Happy

That's a pretty good outcome I have to say... I wish more people would have appreciated the soldiers in Vietnam instead of bashing them and stating that what they did was wrong even though the government was responsible for the whole chaos in the first place...

But in your case it wouldn't make sense for people to look down upon you, I can't see why anyone would be so naive as to under-appreciate a former soldier who fought against terrorism when no one else would.

I personally wear full uniforms from just about every section of the Russian and Soviet army out of respect and as a memorial for the sacrifices they have made for human kind and the world itself, and I shun everyone who looks down upon me for that. No individual has the right to talk negatively towards a former soldier, you stand out for what you have done in service to your people and your country, and for that I have the up-most respect for you, even if we barely talk or know each other for that matter, I realize what weight your job has had for yourself as well as in the eyes of the next generation who look up to us and expect the best of us, to protect them. And when I can tell someone has done that right, when someone has not only succeeded at being a soldier and carrying the burden of serving in such conflicts between human kind as well as being a father and a husband at the same time, I hold nothing but admiration and respect to that person, to you, for being able to prolong through something that even the strongest sometimes still become consumed in, your dedication to your responsibilities is enough to inspire even a person like me to thinking twice when believing that there is no good left on this world.

Though you cannot see it, I give my salute to you Vityaz.

I hope more moments of admiration such as that come to you again.

Well most of the things that I would like to say were already said by Taurus.

With all my heart, I thank you for your courage in which you have stood up against the evils of our world today, which is terrorism in it's various forms. A salute for our good friend and colleague! Very Happy

Strangely enough, I also had a guy this afternoon shake my hand for wearing a pro-life pin on my jacket. Twice in one day is pretty good!!!

Wow and to think, Vityaz gets all the compliments, I get all the rocks. Naw I'm kidding around, but that's pretty cool.

Thanks for kicking terrorist ass Vityaz.

WHat branch? Thanks are nessary for people who serve. Most people don't realize how different things would be if there weren't people to step up and do the job.

Too many people take for granted what they have

people in the western world are sheltered. They don't know/appreciate what soldiers do. It's conditioning from a society that rewards and nurtures the worst human traits. A draft military system may give some of these no-lifers a little bit more appreciation for what you do.
