Nice and sturdy, good for re-enactors and airsofters alike. The one I got was in brand-new condition and serves very well!!!

great stuff. I have an afghan war issue one (i think taken by muj from soldier/supplies or local government issue) and it still looks great and i use it with the helmet covers. If you are doing motor rifles, you "must" get one (afghan or chechnya 1 & 2 war era motor rifles)

Seems like this helmet is still in use by some former Soviet Republics (Gotta admire the durability of these helmets)

I agree, Steel Helmets are really beautiful. I heard that the M68 has an upgraded variant that has added Ballistic protection. But I wonder if these steel helmets could still save you in a modern battlefield? But my guess is yes since they worked during WW2 and the Afghan War of the Soviet Union. And war hasn't really changed that much since then.

Depends what hits it really, even the latest kevlar helmets wont stop 7.62 rifle rounds directly. The US PASGT helmet which admittedly did stop an AK-47 round in Grenada (but it was a glancing shot not a direct hit) was tested on some program and suffered failure when hit with MP7, VZ61, TT33 and FG42 rounds

While researching helmets, I read somewhere that most helmets are designed to protect the user from shrapnel, not from bullets. But it is also nice that these helmets still provide a degree of protection against bullets and glancing shots.(They're better than nothing) And helmets that do protect against bullets I heard end up getting pretty heavy (like the sphera), reducing the users mobility and straining his neck.

All Military body armor should be considered ineffective against bullets. Most of it is to stop shrapnel, again to stop bullets it would make the armor to big and heavy.

So people who carry body armor that can stop bullets end up looking like this?

I would choose mobility over being a sitting duck any time. Thanks for the new information too Toje!
